아일랜드 출신의 고혹적인 보컬리스트 메이브.
2000년에 새롭게 등장한 음악아티스트인 그녀가 주목받는 이유는
아일랜드의 민요를 현대적으로 잘 해석했다는 평을 듣기때문.
그녀의 목소리는 단순히 아름답다는 차원을 넘어서 클래시컬한
고급스러움과 맑고 청아한 따듯한 음색,
세련된 신비스러움이 있다는 평을 받고 있다.
그녀의 대표곡인 One I love 는 그녀의 데뷰앨범에서 있는 곡으로
그녀는 보컬뿐만 아니라 하프와 키보드연주까지 맡았다.
그녀의 이러한 음악적 자질은 실제 전공은 법학임에도 불구하고
어린시절부터 클래식과 아일랜드 민요를 공부했고 아일랜드가 자랑하는
합창그룹 아누나(Anuna)의 리드 보컬을 한 탄탄한 경력 아래서
이루어 졌다고 봐야 할 것.
아일랜드 민요, 켈트 뮤직, 뉴에이지... 이런 복합적인 요소들을
한꺼번에 느낄수 있는 가수.
이 곡이 담긴 앨범의 첫곡 Ailein Duinn은 영화 Rob Roy에
삽입되기도 하였는데, 곡을 만든 애니 캠벨이란 여성의 슬픈 뒷 이야기가 있다.
사랑하는 약혼자와 결혼을 하기로 되어 있던날 그 사람이 익사하였고
약혼자를 잃은 슬픔으로 곡을 만들었는데,
그녀 역시 바다에 익사하였다.
